Sunday Noon Update: Storms Sinking Slowly South…Warning for Wilcox
Showers and thunderstorms continue across the middle of Alabama as we pass the noon hour on this Sunday.
They extend from parts of Sumter and Choctaw counties in West Central Alabama across Greene, Hale, and Marengo, through Perry, Dallas and Autauga, into the Clanton, Prattville, and Wetumpka area…then through Tallapoosa, Macon, and Lee counties.
None of them are especially strong to severe except for the ones over Marengo dropping into Wilcox. The line is sinking slowly south ahead of a weak cold front. It will probably pick up a little intensity this afternoon as it moves into the warm, moist, and unstable airmass to its south. Some of the storms could be severe over the southern half of the state.
A new severe thunderstorm warning was just issued for Wilcox County in South Central Alabama.
It should be a fairly quiet night after these storms exit the southern parts of the area. But more storms will push in from the southwest during the morning tomorrow. They will lift northeast through the morning hours, and some of them could be strong to severe again. Heavy rain will also be a concern.
Then, another line will weep across during the afternoon from the northwest, bringing more potentially strong to severe storms.
Damaging winds will be the main threats in both cases.
