WARMEST SO FAR THIS YEAR: Birmingham is reporting 76 degrees at 2:00… making this the warmest day so far this year. Our previous high for 2010 was 74 degrees recorded on March 11. And, the warm-up continues tomorrow and Friday with highs in the 80 to 85 degree range. The GFS is printing 84 degrees for Birmingham on Friday; if we reach that it will be our warmest day since October 9, 2009 when the high was 89. And, the air remains dry and there is no chance of rain through Friday night.

EASTER WEEKEND: An interesting forecast. There are clear indications that we probably won’t get much rain Saturday, with dynamics weakening and passing to the north of Alabama, along with limited moisture and instability. Watch the Weather Xtreme video for details; we will still mention a chance of showers and possibly a thunderstorm Saturday afternoon and Saturday evening, but models show a decaying line of showers and storms, with most of the rain totally dissipating just southeast of Birmingham. Seems like rain amounts will be 1/4 inch or less, and there is a chance some spots will miss the showers completely. And, the risk of severe weather looks very small at this point.

Easter Sunday for now looks dry and warm with a high around 80 degrees along with a partly sunny sky.

NEXT WEEK: Some low level moisture will be around early next week, so I guess an isolated shower is possible somewhere, but Monday and Tuesday look generally dry and warm with highs in the low 80s. A cold front will bring a chance of showers and thunderstorms Wednesday, followed by sharply colder temperatures Thursday and Friday. There is still some concern over a freeze or frost threat at the end of next week; growers will need to keep an eye on that as we get closer.

And, still no sign of any major severe weather setup here through mid-month.
