No Heat Relief This Weekend; A Few Strong Storms Possible This Afternoon

| July 12, 2025 @ 12:19 pm

As of 12 PM, we have only a few isolated showers over the northeastern portions and scattered showers and storms over the southwest portions of the state. Temperatures were in the mid 80s to the lower 90s across the state, with Andalusia coming in as the hot spot at 92, while Eufaula and Cullman were the cool spots at 84. Birmingham was at 86.

We will have more isolated to scattered storms pop through the afternoon and into the evening hours, with the highest coverage mainly along and north of I-20 and along and south of US-82. Over the northern part of the state, there will be enough factors involved that a few strong, potentially brief severe storms, will form with gusty winds and dangerous lightning. A marginal risk is up for those locations. Highs top out in the lower to mid 90s. A few isolated showers and storms may be left over this evening over the western half of the area, but those will quickly die out after sunset. Lows will eventually fall into the upper 60s to the mid 70s.

For tomorrow, a ridge of high pressure strengthens a bit over the area, lowering rain chances and pushing heat indices closer to dangerous levels. Only isolated afternoon storms are expected, so most of us stay dry — but it’ll be hot. Humidity will make it feel more like 100 to 105 in some locations. Be sure to stay hydrated and take breaks if you’re outdoors. Afternoon highs will climb into the lower to mid 90s.

For the North Atlantic, Caribbean Sea, and the Gulf of America, tropical cyclone formation is not expected during the next 7 days.
