Birmingham’s Longest Consecutive 100 Degree Day Streaks

We are in the middle of an intense heat wave here in Alabama. Combined with our current protracted and severe drought, the situation is significant and serious. Reaching the century mark is a notable weather event in Alabama. We have now recorded five straight days with temperatures at or above 100F at the Birmingham Airport, with the prospect of a few more. What is the record number of consecutive 100 degree days? Where does the current heat wave stand? Here is a listing of the 100F degree streaks measured in Birmingham since 1895. We are only considering unbroken streaks of 100F degree readings.

1980 – July 10-17: 8 days
1995 – August 13-19: 7 days
1925 – September 3-9: 7 days
1952 – July 24-29: 6 days
1954 – June 26-July 2: 6 days
1930 – July 9-13: 5 days
1931 – June 25-June 30: 5 days
1935 – August 5-9: 5 days
1993 – July 19-23: 5 days
1990 – August 16-20: 5 days
