HOT AFTERNOONS: Yep… summer must be around the corner. Our warmest day so far this year, based on official data from the Birmingham Airport, was on April 6 when the high was 88. We are forecasting a high of 88 today, followed by 90 tomorrow and Thursday. Each day should feature a good supply of sunshine, although we note there will be clouds over the southern half of Alabama today, along with some rain below Montgomery thanks to a strong short wave passing through.

FRIDAY AND THE WEEKEND: Another strong wave will roll through the Great Lakes Friday, but the active weather with that feature will remain well north of Alabama. The trailing front will pass through Friday night, and could bring a few isolated showers, but most of the state will be dry. The weekend will be cooler with highs back in the mid 70s, and for now it looks mostly dry with a decent amount of sunshine both Saturday and Sunday. That weak front will begin moving northward as a warm front Sunday, but with hardly moisture the chance of rain looks very small.

NEXT WEEK AND INTO VOODOO LAND: A strong ridge aloft should deflect the major rain producing systems west and north of Alabama, so the dry weather should last through most of next week. The weather will be warm with highs mostly in the 80s, and humidity levels will rise as well. Quite frankly, there is no major rain event on the 00Z GFS through mid-month. And, we note some evidence of early season tropical mischief in the Atlantic, but the GFS is famous for bogus tropical systems in voodoo land. However, we must remember that while the northern Gulf SSTs are still low, the rest of the Atlantic basin is actually pretty warm, leading many to believe this will be an active hurricane season. We will see.
