Three Cheers for Mr. Dewpoint!
I am a numbers guy and a huge dew point fan. I pay little attention to the relative humidity. Dew point is a much more stable and dependable indicator of how dry (or moist) the air is and a good measure of how comfortable (or uncomfortable) you will be outside.
While 97.2% of you were still sound asleep, and 30% of you were snoring, I was out for a pre-sunrise walk minus Little Miss Molly. (Yes, sometimes I enjoy a lone walk) I could immediately tell that a significant drop in dew point had occurred. (Remember on an average July morning, the dew point is in the 70-75 range.
So, I came back in, and with a big cup of fresh world’s best coffee in hand, logged into fresh weather data and found these delightful dew points:
54 Albertville
56 Decatur, Huntsville/NWS at UAH, Meridianville, Fort Payne
57 Haleyville, Birmingham, Muscle Shoals
58 Cullman Airport
59 Gadsden
AND THESE NICE TEMPERATURES
…..60 Haleyville, Meridianville
…..58 Cullman
…..59 Russellville
…..64 Valley Head
AND WHERE THE DRIER AIR WAS A NO-SHOW
81 degrees at Gulf Shores with a dew point a very high 78
The above temperatures are actual 6 am and not the final low. I feel sure we will hear of some low 50s in the NE Alabama valleys later this morning.
