QUIET WEATHER FOR THE WEEKEND: Our weather won’t change much through Sunday. Mostly sunny days, fair nights. Highs around 90, lows around 70. That is the short version; but understand the chance of rain is not zero, and a blip or two is certainly possible on radar. We actually have a few of those on radar this afternoon over East and Central Alabama, but all of those will vanish in a heartbeat once the sun goes down later this evening. All in all a pretty decent Fourth of July weekend.

NEXT WEEK: A little model madness is creeping in, as the 12Z GFS shows a surge of moisture moving northward through Alabama thanks to a broad low over the Gulf Coast. We will mention a small risk of a shower or storm for now, and adjust the forecast as needed if the wetter trend continues in model output. The rest of the week looks fairly quiet, with only widely scattered afternoon showers.

AT THE BEACH: We cannot omit showers and thunderstorms along the Alabama/NW Florida coast. There will be scattered ones each day, at least through next Tuesday, and possibly longer. If you are interested in percentages, most of those days will feature a 40 or 50% chance of getting wet. There will also be more cloud cover than usual, so high temperatures will be mostly around 88 to 90.

TROPICS: We will have to watch the northern Gulf for potential backyard development through next week, but one way or another the main impact will be the threat of heavier rain for the coast. The rest of the Atlantic basin is quiet.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. You can even listen here on the blog; look for the player on the top left.
