Remembering the Terrible Heat Wave of 2007

On this date in 2007, Alabama was broiling in the midst of one of the state’s worst heat waves ever.  The mercury reached 105F at Birmingham, a record for the month of August.  It also marked the ninth consecutive day that the mercury had reached the century mark, which was also a new record.  The streak would eventually extend to ten days.

At Muscle Shoals, it was 107F, the second hottest temperature ever recorded in the Northwest Alabama city.

Pinson also recorded 107F, the hottest August day ever observed at that long running cooperative station.

105 Huntsville, Birmingham, Centreville, Montgomery, (both Maxwell AFB and Dannelly Field)

106 Tuscaloosa, Samantha, Vinemont

107 Muscle Shoals, Pinson, Demopolis108 Moundville, Faytte

109 Hamilton
