There is not expected to be much change in our weather pattern for the foreseeable future as the upper ridge maintains a strong grip on the overall weather pattern. The ridge along with the dry soil conditions should keep us in the mid and upper 90s for afternoon highs through Tuesday.

A convergence boundary or leftover front continued across South Alabama and was the most likely cause of the isolated shower activity evidenced on radar this morning. The boundary is not being handled well by the computer models. I anticipate that it should stay in the area south of Clanton and gradually wash out.

The ridge finally shows signs of breaking down as we head into mid week. The breaking down of the ridge comes from a strong trough moving across the northern tier of the US which could also bring a weak front into the area around Saturday. Not going to hang my forecast on that timing just yet as we watch to see if it approaches then or perhaps a day or so later. This whole pattern for next weekend could spell the end to the overall heat – at least dampen it down somewhat where we are not in the mid and upper 90s.

Tropics are still active. The remnants of Karl continue to impact Mexico and South Texas. Igor is down from a major hurricane and approaching Bermuda – in fact, it appears likely that Igor could pass right over the island country later today. The wind has already gusted to 43 mph and should continue to increase today. Julia is a shadow of her former self and expected to continue downward becoming a depression early Monday. The area of disturbed weather west and southwest of the Cape Verde Islands appears likely to become a depression in the next couple of days. It appears likely it will remain well out in the Atlantic with no threat to land.

The Gulf storm that appeared in voodoo country yesterday is gone. But it was replaced by a Florida storm around the end of September. What is encouraging on the long range GFS is to see a trough over the eastern half of the country which could spell our first real feel of Fall – at least I’m hoping for that!
