Late Evening Update

Is there any better football than in the SEC? What a fun day of watching football today. And how about UAB?

The atmospheric pattern is changing across Alabama and the Deep South, and changing in a big way. The persistent upper level ridge that has persisted over the South will give way to an impressive trough and upper low over the next few days. This will mean some wet weather initially, followed by some seasonably fine weather for the next several days.

Light rain and some embedded thunderstorms started forming last evening over Central Alabama. Some of the storms were fairly vigorous over West Central Alabama.

Rain and embedded storms should be on the increase today across the area, with most spots picking up an inch or more of rain. We will take it. The rain should begin to diminish on Monday, setting the stage for lots of sunshine and seasonably milder temperatures for the rest of the week.

TROPICS REPORT
Matthew is still moving west over Mexico. It looks like it will be a non-factor in U.S. weather, although the GFS does paint an interesting picture with three tropical cyclones coming out of the western Caribbean over the next two weeks. Lisa is barely a tropical storm and growing weaker over the eastern Atlantic.
