FINE FALL WEATHER: Some 5:00 a.m. temperatures this morning include 48 at Russellville and Concord, 49 at Haleyville, 50 at Gadsden, 51 at Fayette and Coker, 53 at Tuscaloosa, 54 at Anniston, and 55 at Birmingham. Very refreshing, and we expect cool mornings like this for the foreseeable future. The air is also very dry, meaning a pretty long dry spell ahead. We expect sunny pleasant days and clear cool nights through Friday, with highs generally in the 77 to 82 degree range, with lows in the 50s, with 40s for the cooler valleys.

OUR WEEKEND: A fresh supply of cool, dry air drops in here over the weekend as the upper trough stays parked over the eastern U.S. Basically more of the same Saturday and Sunday, with highs in the 70s and lows in the 50s… although lows in the upper 40s seem likely for most spots early Sunday and Monday. Absolutely no risk of rain… a delightful weekend for football or anything else.

LONG RANGE: Quite frankly, the weather looks dry through mid-October, so we need to keep in mind that the outdoor fire danger will be rising in coming weeks, which is not unusual for this time of the year (October is normally our driest month).

TROPICS: A well organized disturbance over the western Caribbean should become Tropical Storm Nicole in coming days. It will move northeast toward South Florida, followed by a run up the East Coast with lots of wind and rain. Some communities on the Atlantic coast could see 5 to 10 inches of rain in coming days, but all of this stays well east of the U.S.

We have to note the 00Z GFS shows a tropical system in the southern Gulf in 15 days, with the upper trough axis over North America more to the west. If by chance this is correct, it would open the door for some trouble for the Central Gulf Coast toward mid-month. But, this is all voodoo. See the Weather Xtreme video for details.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. You can even listen here on the blog; look for the player on the top left.
