Nicole had the “honor” of being a tropical storm for only a few hours. What is left of her is causing major, major problems along the Atlantic Seaboard today and those problems will spread northward. A few notes:

* Upper air soundings this morning show that the upper level low pressure area which is a key player in this event has shifted eastward a bit and was located along the Alabama/Georgia border. The surface low was along the Mid-Atlantic Coast and was approaching Northern Virginia.

* 31 Tornado Warnings have been issued since 9 o’clock last night!

* 19 Flash Flood Warnings have been issued since 3 o’clock this morning

* 13 foot waves now 70 miles east of Virginia Beach

* 15 foot waves currently at both Diamond Shoals and Frying Pan Shoals, N.C.

* A significant flood hreat as far north as Central New York State.

* 47 mph wind gust at Diamond Shoals, N.C.

* 5 foot waves at the Long Island Buoy

* Tornado Watch until 1 pm, EDT for Eastern North Carolina north to Philadelphia. It also includes Washington and Baltimore.

Major flash flooding was under way. Numerous counties under a Flash Flood Warning, some roads closed. There was one news report that Wilmington, N.C., had received 21 inches of rain since Sunday!

This proves once more thatit does not take a full-blown hurricane to cause all kinds of weather problems.
