Thanks to Scott Smith for this image… he writes:

“Mr. Spann,

I would like to submit a photo I made yesterday. Travelling north on Hwy
75 between Remlap and Allgood, at approximately 5:40pm, I witnessed bizarre
and fascinating weather. The sun was behind and to the left of me
(Southwest), shining brightly under the clouds. There was an intensely
bright ‘piece’ of a rainbow straight in front of me for miles. There were
actually two rainbow pieces as seen in the photo. Dark clouds in front of
me, cars stopped on the sides of the road, and hail accumulated in piles on
the sides of the road too.

I noticed when I left work (Tarrant City) at 5:00 and sunny conditions, it
was 81 degrees. I watched the temperature drop as I travelled north, but
when I got to that lonely stretch of road a couple of miles south of
Allgood, where the hail had just occurred, the temperature was 54 degrees!
I thought that was pretty impressive to go from 81 to 54 on my way home?
Of course, when I got through and on the other side of the severe
thunderstorm, into Oneonta, it was partly cloudy and back up to around 75
degrees.”
