BEAUTIFUL AFTERNOON: If you went west from Alabama this afternoon, you wouldn’t even find any clouds until you got to New Mexico. But even with the full sunshine, high temperatures are still going to only make the middle 50s at best.

MORNING LOWS: Brian Peters compiled an excellent list of morning lows from across the area this morning.
They were generally in the upper 20s to lower 30s, and ranged from 26F at Haleyville to 34F at Albertville and Auburn. It was 32F at the Birmingham Airport, marking our first official freeze, and 30F at Pinson. Brian had 29F in Helena. Scroll down to read the entire list.

You get an extra hour of sleep tonight, the hour that you lost when Daylight Saving Time started in the spring. Don’t forget to set your clocks back one hour before retiring for bed tonight, or you will be an hour early tomorrow!

A freeze warning is posted for tonight as high pressure settles over the southern United States. Readings tonight should be even colder than last night, dropping into the upper 20s to around 30F in most Central Alabama locations, with some middle 20s in colder spots. Ridges could be a little warmer, in the lower or even middle 30s, however, thanks to the temperature inversion that will set up. Sunny skies will prevail again tomorrow. Temperatures will be about 6-7 degrees warmer on average than today. Sunday night will be chilly and clear.
