Hurricane Jack

Also known as “the cannonball” and “the wrecking ball”, I wanted to introduce you to the newest member of our family, Jack.

Jack is a beagle I found on the side of the road this summer, where he had likely been for a while, given his lack of ID or collar, very poor health condition, and ability to eat bugs in mid air.  On the way driving him to the vet, his foaming at the mouth made me quite nervous, but he was actually carsick!  As appropriate, we drove through one of the most intense thunderstorms I’ve driven through in a while, Jack was treated in the hospital for a while, and released.  He has become a very close member of our family, lowered my job-related blood pressure, and made us very happy.  (He’s named after Jack Bauer from the TV show 24).  Even though he’s destructive, he’s about as sweet as a dog can be.

They say rescue dogs make the best pets, maybe because they never forget that you took them from a bad situation.  In Jack’s case, there was no middle man (ASPCA, Humane Society), it was just a rescue.  But, if you’re considering a dog, please consider a rescue dog.  There are rescues just for breeds, there is the humane society, or you may also someday see a dog in need of help on the side of a road.  They may not come to you easily at first, but if you’re persistent, you could save their life, and gain a friend.
