FINE FALL WEATHER: Not much change in the weather is expected through Friday with sunny mild days and clear cool nights. Highs will be mostly in the 70s, and lows in the 40s. Doesn’t get much better. And, we expect another delightful night for high school football playoff games Friday night with clear and cool conditions for those Friday night lights.

WEEKEND SHOWERS: Part of the upper trough out west will lift out toward the Great Lakes this weekend, and a cold front will slip into Alabama. The 12Z GFS confirms the idea that the best chance of showers for Alabama will come late Saturday night into Sunday. And, with weak dynamics and limited moisture, rain should be light and spotty. Highs will drop back into the 60s over the weekend.

NEXT WEEK: A decent rain event should unfold early in the week, with periods of rain Monday, Monday night, and possibly into Tuesday. We are more optimistic that much of Alabama will see one inch of rain with this event, and the good news is that the chance of severe weather looks very minimal with the surface low passing to the south. Drier air invades the state Wednesday.

VOODOO LAND: Global models continue to hint at a major surge of colder air down into the Deep South in the November 20-22 time frame, but it remains to be seen if we can get a good precipitation event going before the cold air arrives. See the Weather Xtreme video for details.

TROPICS: A disorganized wave continues south of Hispaniola, and the rest of the Atlantic basin is quiet.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. Scroll down for the show notes on this week’s new episode.
