A Few Sprinkles Late Tonight

TO THE WEST: While we are enjoying a delightful day across Alabama with a bright sunny sky and temperatures around the 60 degree mark, a vigorous weather system is moving across Oklahoma, and will bring clouds back into the state late tonight.

The strong dynamic forcing associated with this system might squeeze out a few sprinkles after midnight, but needless to say there is very little moisture to work with, and rain should be pretty much insignificant.

TOMORROW: We will begin the day with clouds, and the risk of a sprinkle in scattered spots, but the sky should become partly sunny by afternoon as subsidence takes the clouds out in the wake of the departing wave. Temperatures won’t change much, with a high in the low 60s tomorrow.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: The weather still looks excellent for tomorrow night’s Thursday night special in Tuscaloosa; Alabama will host Georgia State at Bryant Denny Stadium at 6:30. The sky will be clear, and temperatures will fall through the 50s during the first half, reaching the 40s during the second half. Perfect football weather, and the high school games Friday night will be played under very similar conditions.

FRIDAY AND THE WEEKEND: Excellent weather is the story, with sunny mild days and clear cool nights. It looks like we reach the upper 60s Friday, followed by highs around 70 on Saturday and Sunday.

OVER THE RIVER AND THROUGH THE WOODS: Big travel week next week with Thanksgiving on the plate. Here in Alabama, mild afternoons will headline the forecast on Monday and Tuesday, with a partly sunny sky and temperatures reaching the 72 to 76 degree range. Moisture levels will slowly increase, and we might see an afternoon shower in spots Tuesday, but nothing widespread.

Watch the Weather Xtreme video and you will see the latest GFS keeps the bulk of the organized rain north of Alabama Wednesday, but we will still mention some risk of a few showers with higher moisture levels in place. Then, rain becomes more widespread Wednesday night and Thursday as a sharp cold front slowly moves into the state. Thanksgiving Day is still looking wet, and potentially stormy. Then, colder and drier air moves in on Friday, which is the day of this year’s Iron Bowl (played in Tuscaloosa), and the biggest shopping day of the year. Very cold air to the north will creep in here, and we might have a hard time getting out of the 40s with a chilly north wind. This, of course, is still out there in voodoo land, so the timing could change, but the confidence in the overall forecast is relatively high.

DEEP INTO VOODOO COUNTRY: Again, watch the Weather Xtreme video and you can see the strong negative spike in the AO/NAO in about 15 days, which could signal some very cold air for parts of the eastern and southern U.S. Stay tuned.
