BRIGHTER DAY: We project a sunny sky for Alabama today. It is noticeably colder this morning, with temperatures generally in the mid to upper 30s, but we should warm to near 60 degrees today with ample sunshine.

TONIGHT: Clouds return to the state tonight ahead of a strong vorticity maximum aloft that will move over us. There will be some very good dynamic forcing, but very little moisture. We could very well see a few sprinkles or rain drops in the midnight to 6:00 a.m. time frame, but rain, if any, probably won’t amount to much.

TOMORROW THROUGH THE WEEKEND: After some morning clouds, the sky becomes partly to mostly sunny by tomorrow afternoon, and we stay dry through the weekend with sunny pleasant days and clear chilly nights. Highs will be in the 60s, with lows in the upper 30s early tomorrow, followed by low 40s Saturday and Sunday morning.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: Look for chilly but clear weather for the Alabama/Georgia State game at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa tomorrow night. The temperature will be around 54 degrees at kickoff, falling into the low 40s by the final whistle. Pretty much the same story for the high school football playoff games Friday night.

THANKSGIVING WEEK: Watch the Weather Xtreme video for a day by day breakdown. The weather looks generally dry and mild Monday and Tuesday, with a partly sunny sky and highs up in the low 70s. Showers should arrive over the northern half of the state on Wednesday, and Thanksgiving Day is still looking rather wet, with periods of rain and possibly a few strong thunderstorms as the surface front moves through. The latest GFS suggests the day after Thanksgiving, the day of the Iron Bowl and “Black Friday”, will be dry but colder. We might have a hard time getting out of the 40s.. we can be much more specific later this week.

VOODOO LAND: We still note with great interest the forecast downward spike in the North Atlantic Oscillation at the end of November and into early December… this is the biggest move in the NAO in months, and could open the door for a very cold period for the eastern and southern U.S. We will see… check out the Weather Xtreme video for more details.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
