TURNING COLDER TONIGHT: A cold front continues to make progress across Alabama this afternoon; behind the front the temperature at Muscle Shoals was only 53, while south of the front Montgomery was 20 degrees warmer at 73. A cold, deep upper trough is passing over the state as well, which is aiding in the development of a few scattered showers. All of these showers will end once the sun goes down later this afternoon. We will be in the mid to upper 30s by daybreak tomorrow with a clear sky.

REST OF THE WEEK: Dry weather is the story, with mostly sunny pleasant days and clear cold nights. A disturbance could bring a few scattered clouds Thursday, but the air is too dry for any rain. The weather looks excellent for Alabama’s home game Thursday night against Georgia State, with a clear sky and temperatures falling into the 40s by the second half of the game at Bryant-Denny Stadium.

WONDERFUL WEEKEND: The excellent weather continues into the weekend. Lots of sunshine Saturday and Sunday, with highs in the 60s and lows in the 38 to 44 degree range. Dry air means no rain.

THANKSGIVING WEEK: Look for mild afternoons Monday and Tuesday with temperatures reaching the low 70s. Moisture will begin to return, and we might mention a small risk of a shower Tuesday afternoon, but it looks like both of these days will be relatively dry at this point.

Our weather turns wet Wednesday into Thanksgiving Day thanks to a slow moving cold front approaching from the north. Watch the Weather Xtreme video and you see the the 12Z GFS has backed off on the idea of strong/severe storms on Thanksgiving, but for now it sure looks wet. Very cold air will cover the northern half of the nation, but it won’t move south quickly due to a strong zonal flow aloft over mid-America. Some of this could air could very well creep down into Alabama on Iron Bowl/Black Friday, but it remains to be seen how cold it gets, or if rain will continue on Friday. Stay tuned.
