LOOKING GOOD THROUGH SUNDAY: More fantastic weather for Alabama through the weekend with sunny mild days and clear cool nights. The high will be close to 70 tomorrow, followed by low 70s Sunday. Just doesn’t get much better.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: High school football quarterfinals around Alabama tonight will feature a mostly clear sky, a light wind, and cool (but not really cold) air. Kick-off temperatures will range from 50 to 55 degrees. It will drop down to between 45 and 50 by the end of most games this evening.

Tomorrow, UAB hosts Memphis at Legion Field with a 3:00 kickoff; the sky will be sunny with a temperature near 70 at kickoff, dropping to near 60 by the end of the game. Samford hosts The Citadel at 1:00 tomorrow; lots of sunshine with temperatures in the 67 to 70 degree range during the game. Jacksonville State will be in Cookville, Tennessee to take on Tennessee Tech (4:00 kickoff)… the sky will be clear with temperatures falling from near 65 at kickoff to around 52 by the end of the game.

THANKSGIVING WEEK: While we are looking at low to mid 70s here Monday and Tuesday, the coldest air so far this season will invade the northern states, where highs will be only in the single digits in spots. Moisture will be increasing, and we will continue to mention some risk of an afternoon shower Tuesday in a few spots, but the most widespread rain along the Polar front will hang around north of Alabama.

Watch the Weather Xtreme video and you will see the 12Z GFS is a little slower with the rain event again, suggesting the big rains hold off until Wednesday night and Thanksgiving Day. A few strong storms are possible, but for now a major severe weather threat doesn’t seem likely. We will begin to turn colder Thursday with a high in the 57 to 60 degree range, but the really cold air doesn’t arrive until Friday.

IRON BOWL COLD: Scroll down for Dr. Tim’s post on the potential for really cold weather on Black Friday/Iron Bowl day. He could be right about holding in the 30s all day, but for now I think a more conservative approach is in order, with highs in the 45 to 50 degree range and a stiff north wind to make it feel colder. One way or another Friday (11/26) looks dry and cold. The cold air sticks around for the beginning of the following weekend. The big negative NAO/AO spike certainly supports the idea of much colder air around this part of the month.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
