Late Night Update–10:45 Report
The much anticipated cold front continued to push into North Alabama late tonight. At 10:45 pm, the front seemed to be about 25 miles NW of Birmingham. It has already passed Columbus, Miss., as well as Florence, Huntsville and Decatur.
There is a quick drop in temperature behind the front. It is still mild over most of Alabama with upper 60s and even some 70-degree weather south of the front. Here are some 10 pm temperatures in the colder air:
50s over NW Alabama
44 Nashville
41 Memphis
43 Oxford, Miss.
34 Dyersburg, Tenn.
27 Fayetteville, Ark.
7 above zero at Goodland, Kans.
No recent severe weather. The “back end” of the broad area of rain was approaching Memphis late tonight. This bodes well with our belief that the rain will be ending in Tuscaloosa before the 1:30 pm kickoff of the Alabama-Auburn game Friday afternoon. We can be more precise about that very early Friday morning.
The coldest in the USA Thanksgiving morning was 23 below zero at Bryce Canyon, Utah, Big Piney, Wyo., and inside Yellowstone National Park.
We will try to post an update very, very early Friday morning to explain weather conditions for the early, early shoppers celebrating “Black Friday” although many will be headed to the malls at midnight.
