An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player on the right sidebar of the blog. You can subscribe to the Weather Xtreme video on iTunes by clicking here.

COLD AND WET: All the shoppers this morning (yes, many people were in line for 4:00 store openings this morning) are being greeted with falling temperatures and light rain. The cold air is moving in right on time… at 5:30 this morning our SKYCAM up at Hamilton had dropped to 39 degrees. The Birmingham SKYCAM reported 51, while we still see 60s down around Montgomery.

The cold air wins the battle today, and we will hover in the 40s all day with a chilly north wind.

Light rain is falling over much of North Alabama, but the back edge of the rain has already cleared Muscle Shoals, so confidence is very high that the rain will be over in Tuscaloosa by the time the Iron Bowl kicks off. In fact, the sky should begin to clear over Northwest Alabama this afternoon, and by sundown the clearing line should be near I-59.

AUBURN AT ALABAMA: A slightly huge football game is played today in Tuscaloosa. The weather will be breezy and cold, with about 47 degrees at kickoff, dropping to near 43 by the final whistle. The rain will be over when the game begins, and some clearing is likely during the second half of the game.

HIGH SCHOOL PLAYOFFS: Let’s don’t forget the state semi-finals are tonight. The sky will be clear at most game sites, with temperatures dropping slowly through the upper 30s during the games. A good warm jacket is in order.

UAB: The Blazers will be in Houston tomorrow to play Rice at 2:30. The sky will be sunny with a kickoff temperature near 62, dropping into the mid 50s by the end of the game.

TOMORROW AND SUNDAY: We will begin the day tomorrow with sub-freezing temperatures; most communities will see a low in the mid to upper 20s. Then, a warming trend begins tomorrow afternoon as we climb into the mid to upper 50s. Low 60s will follow on Sunday, and both days will feature a good supply of sunshine.

NEXT WEEK: Another strong weather system will impact Alabama early next week… for now it looks like the best chance of rain and storms will come Monday night and Tuesday, and we will have potential for 1-2 inches of rain statewide along with a few strong thunderstorms. For now the severe weather threat looks minimal with very little surface based instability involved. Much colder air follows the rain on Wednesday with a high only in the 40s, and we will be below freezing at daybreak Thursday.

L:ONG RANGE: As expected, all of the GFS blizzards, snow storms, and ice storms in the land of voodoo have vanished, but the pattern does favor below average temperatures in the December 4-9 time frame. See the Weather Xtreme video for details.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
