Just a reminder we are on the “one a day” production schedule for the Weather Xtreme video… you can see today’s edition in the player on the right side of the blog.

FREEZING TEMPS RETURN: Today went pretty much as expected; temperatures have hovered in the low to mid 40s around the I-20/59 corridor, while some places to the north had a hard time getting out of the 30s today with an icy north wind. The rain is on the way out, the sky is clearing, and the stage is set for a freeze tonight. Most places will wind up in the upper 20s by daybreak, but some of the colder pockets could see low to mid 20s. A far cry from the 70s we have enjoyed in recent days.

REST OF THE HOLIDAY WEEKEND: The sky will be sunny tomorrow and Sunday with a gradual warming trend. We rise into the upper 50s tomorrow, followed by low 60s Sunday. Expect another freeze early Sunday.

NEXT WEEK: A good rain event is ahead Monday night into Tuesday morning. Amounts of 1 to 2 inches are likely statewide, and we might see a few strong thunderstorms involved. Instability values will be marginal, and for now the threat of severe weather looks small. Much colder air blows in here Tuesday night and Wednesday, and there is even some hint in model output that a few snow flakes could be seen in the cold air over North Alabama Tuesday evening. Nothing more than flurries, most likely, if it happens. Wednesday will be cold and dry with a high only in the mid 40s, and we go below freezing early Thursday.

LONG RANGE: The latest few runs of the GFS have suggested cold and dry weather in the December 5-10 time frame… maybe the coldest so far this season at some point along the way. No sign of winter weather problems in recent runs.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
