Intensifying Storm South of Columbus

A rapidly developing thunderstorm south of Columbus MS shows signs of already becoming tornadic. It is about 45 miles SSW of Vernon in Lamar County, heading on a NNE path at around 50 mph.

It will cross US-82 near the Alabama/Mississippi border passing over extreme northwestern Pickens County then into Lamar County and could pass near Vernon just after midnight.

Be prepared to leave mobile homes as soon as the warning is issued for your location. Alert friends, neighbors and family who may be in the path but not monitoring the weather late tonight.

A tornado watch is likely soon for West Central Alabama into the Tennessee Valley.
