Cool morning

It’s a nice morning, with cool temps (especially in some places).

Lows so far vary greatly in Alabama, due to terrain, whether the wind blew last night, and due to the urban heat island.

Lows so far:

Birmingham Airport 62
Jasper 55
Gadsden 50
Anniston 56
West Blocton 52
Talladega 52
Montgomery 61
Auburn 61
Moulton 49
Huntsville 53
Hartselle 47

You can see why forecasting low temps can be so tough! Temps will warm up quickly this morning, with UAH Profiling Radiometer showing temps in the mid 60s only about 1000 feet up. That air will mix out with sunshine, putting us in the 70s by 9 am.

Models show the big trough along the west-coast eroding some by late next week, with the pattern becoming more progressive. We’ll see if that gets a nice polar cold front in here in the next 2 weeks. It’s that time of year. With the sun setting for the winter over the north pole, temps are down in the single digits, with the area of sub-freezing air extending to near the Prairie provinces in Canada. That air will eventually come south!
