Cold and Windy Sunday
Mostly cloudy skies cover the northern half of Alabama on this Sunday afternoon. There are occasional breaks in the overcast, especially over West Central, Eastern and Northeast Alabama.
Vic Bell on Lookout Mountain reports bursts of snow that occasionally whiten the ground, interspersed with periods of sunshine.
Temperatures are in the upper 20s over the Tennessee Valley, near 30 in the I-20 corridor except 36F at Tuscaloosa, and in the middle 30s the further you go into Central Alabama.
Winds are blowing at 15-25 mph from the northwest with occasional gusts to over 30 mph
Snow flurries are scattered across the region, but are most numerous and heaviest over the northeastern quarter of Alabama from Madison and Marshall Counties eastward through Jackson, DeKalb and Cherokee Counties. Some light accumulations are possible over these counties through this afternoon.
The clearing line has worked eastward into northern Mississippi just across the Mississippi River. Skies will become partly cloudy overnight tonight and clear by morning. Lows will drop into the teens. With the stiff northwesterly winds continuing, wind chill values will be in the single digits overnight.
