Blizzard conditions are expected tonight along the East Coast as a big storm off the New Jersey coast pounds the region from eastern Maryland to Maine. A few notes…

…Raleigh NC picked up 8 inches of snow in their first official White Christmas.

…New York City expecting 15-20 inches of snow…and 25-40 mph winds gusting to 60 mph at time. Shortly after 5 p.m. CST, a clod to ground lightning stroke was observed along with lightning just southeast of the city. Skywarn spotters reported thunder. Airports are open but most flights have been canceled. LaGuardia has reported 1/4 mile visibility in heavy snow for over three hours…winds now N 30 G 43…so they are approaching blizzard threshold which is snow or blowing snow, 35 mph winds and 1/4 mile visibility for 3 hours.

…Philadelphia expecting 12=28 inches of snow…the Eagles game with the Viking has been canceled tonight…boy the Vikings have been in a perfect storm of weather conditions haven’t they?

…Boston expecting 8-16 inches of snow. AMTRAK schedules between Boston and New York have been canceled tonight. At 7 p.m. BOS reporting a N wind at 28 gusting to 39…barometer 29.46…pressure falling rapidly. Visibility was 1 1/14 miles with light snow and temperature was 27F.

…Baltimore will only experience 1-2 inches of snow. It has been a difficult forecast for the Washington/Baltimore area. They received such a dumping a year ago at this time and New York City got shut out. Things are reversed this year.
