New Watch Close to Home
The SPC has issued a new tornado watch for parts of Louisiana, Mississippi, Northwest Florida and Southwest Alabama. The counties are outlined in this graphic in red. Radar echoes are superimposed along with surface based CAPE or instability values.
The watch goes until 7 p.m.
Thunderstorms developing over southeastern Louisiana and southern Mississippi are intensifying in relatively unstable air there. As the airmass becomes warmer and more moist, these storms will have the potential to become severe. Wind fields favor possible tornadoes.
Alabama counties include: Butler, Conecuh, Escambia, Mobile, Wilcox, Baldwin, Choctaw, Clarke and Washington.
Further north, the airmass over Central Alabama will gradually become more unstable into the overnight hours and there is a possibility of severe weather especially in areas west of I-65 this evening and into the overnight, including the chance of an isolated tornado.
ST. LOUIS NOTE
A tornado was just reported on the ground northeast of Robertsville, MO. Houses were damaged there. It is near Pacific now, which is 30 miles southwest of downtown St. Louis.
