FIrst Sleet Report in Alabama.

Here is the Jackson radar. That is a band of sleet and freezing rain that is now lifting north and east of the Jackson Metro. It will continue moving northeast and will affect West Central Alabama in the next couple of hours. Already getting report of light sleet at Newbern in Hale County.

…Reports are that bridges in the Metro Jackson area are starting to get slick. Reports of freezing rain and sleet. Glaze on elevated surfaces.
…Travel is becoming hazardous from the Jackson area west along I-20.
…Accidents reported in the Vicksburg area…not just on bridges…temperatures in Vicksburg 31F
…Crystal Springs MS…on I-55 just south of Jackson…good sheet of ice on vehicles and exposed objects
…8:40…heavy sleet in Madison
…8:43 moderate to heavy sleet in Brandon (Jackson Metro area)
…Alan Gerard from the NWS reports good coat of ice and sleet on exposed objects at Airport in Jackson
…accidents on I-220 in Jackson
…starting to get reports of sleet in East Central MS including Meridian NAS
…roads becoming icy in southernYazoo County…accumulating sleet and snow on grassy areas
…sleet at Anguilla in Sharkey County
…Scott County…several icy bridges around the County
…Washington County…accumulations on bridges…at least 2 accidents

GENERAL
…Special weather balloon soundings will be release at noon from several upper air stations including Birmingham and Jackson.
