Scroll down and you will find a wealth of information about our current wintry weather problems. However, the reason for this post is to give you an idea of what is going on west and southwest of our area that will eventually affect us. These are 10 am, CST reports from official stations:

ALABAMA
…25 cloudy, Muscle Shoals, wind chill 15, windy
…22 fair, Haleyville
…28 cloudy, Tuscaloosa
…26 cloudy, Birmingham

MISSISSIPPI
…20 light sleet, Jackson, travel already hazardous from Jackson westward
…30 mixed wintry precipitation, Meridian
…32 Vicksburg, wintry mix
…34 Natchez, cloudy

OTHERS
…46 cloudy, New Orleans Lakefront, east wind, gust 30
…41 Orange, Tex., cold rain, gusts 24
…42 Houston, Cold rain

WHERE IS OUR LOW PRESSURE AREA?
It has now moved offshore and is centered over the NW Gulf of Mexico. It will now develop faster as it moves eastward across the North Gulf of Mexico the next two days. Meanwhile, a strong high centered over Illinois and Indiana continued to pump colder air into Alabama overnight. These early morning lows in Alabama
13 Valley Head
17 Cullman
16 Scottsboro
20 Anniston
19 Pinson
21 Birmingham

SO WHAT DOES ALL THAT MEAN?
It means that since temperatures are still below freezing as mid-day approaches, that the infrastructure is completely chilled and simply waiting some precipitation to create some problems. Since the precipitation may start as light snow later today in the Birmingham area, that could delay real travel problems until some freezing rain comes onstage.
