Report From The Roof Of Alabama

Mount Cheaha is Alabama’s highest peak at 2,407 feet, just south Anniston. We have a SKYCAM at Cheaha State Park, and often we see some extreme weather up on the big hill… and this event certainly is a great example. See the images below, and the report from Lodge Manager Tammy Power…

“Ok James We need you to give us some warmer temp. not more snow.

Yep your right it may be the weekend before we thaw. Only 4 wheel with chains can crawl on the ice and that is if you know what your doing. We are closed.

Roads are iced all the way up 281 from I 20 No one needs to think Cheaha for some time. Ice is not fun as you know. The curves are going to take some time to thaw with the trees there are 2 main ones that we had the cars pile up on during Christmas. Thank God they did not go off the other side. That week we had some ice this is so much more. To think they would push the signs off the roads and come on up with small kids in the car? Then call us on cell phone to come get them. We were putting people in the hotel. I hope they had their taste of snow.

We are thankful we have had power.

Thanks for all you do. Great web cam! If only we were not in the clouds!”
