Great color satellite picture

This is a satellite picture taken yesterday from the MODIS on the Aqua satellite flying around the earth at low enough altitude to get detailed, color pictures, but only about twice a day in a given spot.  You can see the Gulf, beaches, the cities of MGM and TCL, the black belt.  You can also see snow cover, and wave clouds.  Take a look at a zoom-in on the box.

You can see the wide Tennessee River at Lake Wheeler in NW AL surrounded by snow.  Notice there seems to be more snow over the black belt, due to different soil conditions/heat.  Also notice the mountain-induced wave clouds, aided by low-level convection, SE of the mountains that extend from BHM into NE Alabama and north Georgia and east TN.  These were producing snow flurries over much of the area yesterday.
