THIS MORNING: Snow is scattered and light across North Alabama this morning… our Skywatcher in Goldridge in Cullman County reports a light dusting of snow on cars, and we have had reports of snow falling in places like Haleyville, Brilliant, Addison, and Arab, but it is all very light. Blount County EMA just reported light snow on Pine Mountain in SE Blount County and a light rain/snow mix in Oneonta.

Temperatures are above freezing, so there are no travel problems across Alabama.

The core of the upper low is close to Nashville, and accordingly the best snow with this system has been north of the Tennessee state line.

We will hang on to the chance of a little light snow, but it will all be out of the state by mid-morning. We might even see some clearing over West Alabama this afternoon as the upper low pulls away from the state, and the clearing process continues statewide this evening. Most places will be in the mid to upper 20s at daybreak tomorrow.

REST OF THE WEEK: No cold air involved in the wake of the departing system… in fact, we warm up nicely. The high tomorrow will be close to 50, followed by mid 50s on Friday with a good supply of sunshine both days.

NICE WEEKEND: Look for afternoon highs in the mid to upper 50s Saturday and Sunday, with lots of sunshine through scattered clouds. Early morning lows will be in the 30s.

NEXT WEEK AND BEYOND: Models are all over the road next week… the ECMWF wants to bring in a pretty good rain event in here Tuesday, but the GFS suggests some light rain at times through the latter half of the week. Both models keep the really cold air north of Alabama, which takes the idea of Ground Hog’s Day winter weather mischief off the table for now, but all of this will change multiple times by the time we get there. See the Weather Xtreme video for more.

The overall pattern still shows a mean upper trough over the eastern U.S., meaning temperatures for the eastern and southern U.S. should be generally below average for the next 15 days.
