LOOKING GOOD: A nice benign weather pattern is setting up for Alabama through the weekend, making for much easier days in the forecast office. The sky will be partly to mostly sunny tomorrow and Friday, with a high in the low 50s tomorrow, followed by mid to upper 50s Friday.
THE WEEKEND: Saturday looks great, with ample sunshine and a high not too far from 60. The 12Z GFS is showing an impulse over Louisiana that might push some clouds in here Sunday; that run is even hinting at a little light rain for parts of West and South Alabama, but for now we will leave the forecast dry with a high in the 57-60 degree range.
NEXT WEEK: Model madness rules. Taking the GFS approach, we will have some risk of rain late Monday and Tuesday, followed by dry weather with seasonal temperatures Wednesday and Thursday. On the other hand, the ECMWF has a good rain event Tuesday, possibly with a thunderstorm involved, followed by a shot of very cold Arctic air Thursday. Needless to say, we will have to wait a while for better clarity. I would trust the ECMWF a little more in this case, but we will see.
THE LAND OF VOODOO: Snow lovers like the 12Z GFS valid February 9 with big snow look for Alabama, but it is what it is… voodoo. Possible? Certainly. But, we are just peeking.
WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
