No Rain This Week
An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player below, and on iTunes…
We can keep this discussion pretty short for this week; no rain with sunny mild days and clear cool nights through Friday. And, the idea of a rain event late this weekend is out the window; a cold front will scoot through Saturday night, but for now it looks dry with the better upper support well to the north, and hardly any moisture to work with.
The 00Z GFS suggests it would very well be November 10, almost two weeks from now, before our next major rain event. The model at that time shows a very deep long wave trough approaching from the west, that would set the stage for strong to severe storms, and a major change to colder weather. But, understand this is out in voodoo land; there isn’t much skill in trying to identify specific weather more than seven days in advance.
The bottom line is that our rain deficit will only increase during the next 7 to 14 days.
TROPICS: Noel will not seriously impact the U.S. mainland, although the guys at HPC are showing 9.5 inches of rain for Miami through Friday. The latest NHC track keeps Tropical Storm Noel over the Bahamas; I am not sure South Florida will see as much rain as HPC indicates if the NHC track is correct. One way or another, Noel won’t be a factor here. Watch the Weather Xtreme video for the latest satellite images and other graphics associated with the late season storm.
WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. You can even listen here on the blog; look for the player on the top left. We will be recording a new episode tonight; it will be posted by 10:00 or so.
WEATHER PARTY: Get all the latest weather news over on our sister site, WeatherParty.com. Be sure and register while you are there; you can submit stories and vote on them to determine what is published on the front page. This is a great way to find the latest weather-related news stories.
STORM ALERT XTREME: We hope to see you on Saturday, November 10 at the BJCC for our annual severe storm training session. Once again this year, the Alabama International Auto Show is a sponsor of Storm Alert XTREME, and it will be held at the BJCC. This is your chance to learn more about Alabama weather, and to be trained as a storm spotter. ABC 33/40 Meteorologist Brian Peters, long time WCM (Warning Coordination Meteorologist) for the National Weather Service in Birmingham, will teach a basic and advanced course on spotting small scale features within thunderstorms that are very important to meteorologists. Read more about Storm Alert XTREME here.
I am off to Jacksonville this morning to speak to the Alabama Counseling Association…. I will try to get some shots of the fall colors along the roads less traveled… and post them sometime late today or tonight. Look for the next Weather Xtreme video here by 3:30 this afternoon!
