An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player on the right sidebar of the blog. You can subscribe to the Weather Xtreme video on iTunes by clicking here.

NEARING RECORD WARMTH: We are projecting highs generally in the 70-75 degree range for the next 5 days, with potential for a few upper 70s along the way this weekend. This will mean temperatures will be very close to record levels… here are the record highs for the next few days in Birmingham:

Today (2/17) 79 – 1976
Friday (2/18) 77 – 1982
Saturday (2/19) 76 – 1986
Sunday (2/20) 78 – 1986

STILL DRY: Birmingham’s rain deficiency for the year is up to 2.36″, and will continue to grow as the dry pattern continues. A weakening front could kick off a few isolated showers tomorrow evening, but most places will stay dry and we won’t mention any significant chance of rain in our formal forecast.

The weekend will feature mostly sunny and warm weather with highs up in the mid 70s… we might make a run at that Saturday record of 76 degrees. All of this is about 15 degrees above average for mid-February.

NEXT WEEK: Another weakening front could bring a few isolated showers Monday or Monday night, but again nothing widespread or really significant. We do note the GFS tries to bring down slightly cooler for the middle of next week, with highs dropping back into the 60s Tuesday through Thursday. Then, yet another weak front shows up at the end of next week, and it certainly doesn’t look like a major rain event.

VOODOO LAND: Still no sign of any serious cold air shots into early March, but once again temperatures up over the Northwest Territory of Canada are as cold as -49, and we will have to keep an eye on that air. See the Weather Xtreme video for more on long range weather ideas.

STORM ALERT 2011 IS TONIGHT: Our West Alabama show is tonight at Gordo High School… Storm Alert 2011 is our annual severe weather awareness tour across Alabama. We encourage you to come out, meet the ABC 33/40 weather team, and learn how to take care of your family during the spring tornado season, which is just around the corner. The show begins at 6:45, but come early and you can watch me do the weather live on ABC 33/40 at 5:00 and 6:00. Next week we have stops in Springville on Tuesday (at Springville Middle School), and in Lincoln on Thursday.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.

Not sure if I can produce an afternoon video today due to the travel schedule (I will be in Gordo this afternoon for Storm Alert 2011), but I will certainly post some updated forecast notes by 3:30. Enjoy the day!
