Lunchtime Update

| February 26, 2011 @ 12:43 pm | Reply

Temperatures are warming across Central Alabama on this late winter Saturday. Temperatures have jumped into the middle 60s in the past hour at Tuscaloosa and Birmingham. It was 59F at Gadsden. Anniston is not reporting, but other stations around that area are in t he lower and middle 60s. Highs should top out around 70.

Skies are crystal clear and should remain so much of the day until clouds thicken ahead of the a warm front that will move northward tonight. That boundary separates the drier air to the north from the maritime air to the south. There could also be a few showers overnight, but chances are small. Overnight lows will drop into the 50s.

Regarding the severe weather threat for Monday, the morning run of the GFS slows our system down a little bit more, pushing the bulk of the activity into the afternoon hours. This timing could spell more trouble, but still instability values are not very high. We will be watching things.
