Alabama at Mid-morning

| March 4, 2011 @ 9:47 am | 1 Reply

Not much change so far today. The ole wedge is still in control. At 9:45, it was only 55 degrees atop Mt. Cheaha with east winds averaging 28 mph with gusts to 40. You might would want a coat if you were there now.

Rain is scarce. Radar reports at 9:30 showed only a small area of light rain near Decatur and Russellville over NW Alabama. That should change tonight and especially Saturday.

Saturday still looks like our winner for rain. New guidance this morning suggests that a large part of Alabama could receive three inches of rain from this event. We shall see.

As of this morning, the rain shortage for Birmingham Airport so far in 2011 (less than nine weeks)was at 3.24 inches

Looking elsewhere…the SPC (Storm Prediction Center) has a slight risk of severe weather today and/or tonight for Central and Northwest Arkansas, South Missouri and the Extreme east edge of Oklahoma.
