Wow… I have so many questions about the weather via e-mail and social media I thought it would be best to summarize here on the blog. The big ones…

*Will there be severe weather over North Alabama?

Very unlikely. See below… there is zero surface based CAPE over the northern half of Alabama with temperatures generally in the upper 50s. And, the surface low is over Southeast Louisiana… not a favorable position for any unstable air to advect in here. Sure, there could be some elevated storms, and certainly there is a risk of severe weather over South Alabama, but I don’t see any serious issues up this way.

*When will more heavy rain move into the Birmingham metro area?

Within the hour (1:30-2:30)… a large mass of moderate to heavy rain over West Alabama is clearly on the way.

*How much rain will fall?

The 12Z NAM is printing an additional 2.18″ of rain, for a storm total of around three inches for Birmingham. Most other communities can expect the same. Below is the 15Z RPM accumulation precipitation…

*When will the rain end?

It should be over for almost all of Alabama in the midnight to 5:00 a.m. time frame.

*What about tomorrow?

It will be a dry day… partly sunny and cooler with a high in the 57-61 degree range.

Beyond that… I can’t help with the condition of baseball or soccer fields tomorrow! The good news is that this rain is very beneficial for a state that is 3-6 inches down on rain for the year.
