Raining Over the Whole State?–5:15 am Report
Looking at just the Alabama radar returns it would seem that way.
At 5:15 am, it was raining over about 90% of the state and a steady rain at that. No lightning indicated at this time.
At Birmingham Airport we had not had much rain so far in December but as of 5 o’clock this morning we had received 1.23 inches during the night. Some additional amounts so far:
1.75 at Pelham
0.92 at Anniston Airport
1.31 at Ashville
1.26 at Ashland
1.34 at Cook Springs (Bald Rock on I-20 east of Birmingham)
1.50 at Childersburg
1.83 at Clanton
1.26 at Ohatchee (Henry Dam)
1.33 at Pell City
1.54 at Wilsonville (east edge of Shelby County)
The heaviest rain early this morning was over East Central Alabama. The Mt. Cheaha Skycam (on the highest point in Alabama) has received 1.17 inches just since midnight. Not a pleasant morning on that beautiful spot. Visibility is very low, can hardly see across the road, because the mountain is in the clouds. Moderate to heavy rain continues with temperatures in the 50s and east winds gusting to 31 mph.
Steady rain will continue in the Birmingham area through the morning rush hour (or should we call it the morning Christmas Shoppers Rush Hour?)
