Lightning Is Frightening

Thanks to Steve Jacobs for these images… he writes…

“James,

The attached pictures are of my 2008 Nissan Rogue. I was driving home to Anniston with a co-worker from Carrollton, GA on I-20 Monday afternoon February 28 around 3:30 p.m. Just after crossing the Alabama/Georgia state line, my Rogue was struck by lightning. Actually I was struck in two places. One picture is taken from the rear of the vehicle. The object at the top of the picture is what is left of the antenna where lightning struck. Simultaneously, my vehicle was struck just behind the front passenger tire tearing a T shaped hole in the whole in the tire that covered the width of the tire tread and equal distance down the side of the tire. The lightning strike entered the passenger side of the vehicle and then exited the side of the door. The second picture shows the bottom of the passenger side door. The spot that appears to be a bullet hole is where the lightning bolt exited my vehicle.

When the strikes occurred, I only heard what sounded like the tire exploding and saw a fire-ball shoot out from the passenger side of the Rogue.”
