COLD MORNING: As expected, numbers are all over the board this morning on this clear, cold, and calm April Alabama morning. Vic Bell, our Skywatcher in Cherokee County atop Lookout Mountain, reports 31 degrees at 5:00, and tells us “Hard frost on windshield…can’t see good enough on ground yet but has to be at least a moderate frost”. Other temperatures at 5:00 around the state…

I am sure some spots are colder… J.B. will post a list of morning lows a little later today. More than likely, this will be our last really cold, frosty morning with a freeze in spots until sometime in late October or November, as the leaves are falling. Bottle up some of this cold air and save it for August.
We warm into the low 70s today with a cloudless southern sky. The warming trend continues tomorrow with a high in the upper 70s along with a good supply of sunshine.
FRIDAY/SATURDAY: The weather will feel like summer. Warm and very humid; we will be in the low 80s Friday with mid 80s likely Saturday. We will continue to mention the risk of scattered, mostly afternoon showers Friday, but the rain won’t be widespread (much like a typical summer day). I think Saturday will be dry due to the warm air aloft associated with the upper ridge moving in from the south.
SUNDAY/MONDAY: Most of the day Sunday will be warm and dry, with mid 80s likely again. But, the big upper low that was over the Southwest U.S. will be lifting out, and a cold front will bring our next round of organized rain and storms. The GFS continue to suggest that will come from midnight Sunday night through 8:00 a.m. Monday, although the Euro is slower with the arrival during the day Monday. The GFS performed better with this last system, and we will accept the faster solution for now. The storms should be linear with the surface low far north, around the upper peninsula of Michigan, so if we have severe weather issues the problem would be from strong straight line winds. Drier air moves into the state during the day Monday as the storms move on to the east.
The middle of next week looks very nice, with sunny pleasant days and clear nights Tuesday through Wednesday. See the Weather Xtreme video for more long range/voodoo land ideas.
WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
