WARM AND MUGGY: Summer fans will love this weekend… the weather will feel more like late June instead of early April in Alabama; our warmest temperatures so far this year.

Low clouds will become widespread late tonight as low level moisture continues to move northward, and the sky will be cloudy tomorrow morning. The sun breaks out by afternoon, and most communities will see a high in the low to mid 80s tomorrow. We will continue to mention the chance of a few scattered showers tomorrow, but rain will be light and spotty. Dewpoints will be up in the 60s tomorrow, so humidity levels will be much higher than recent days.

THE WEEKEND: The GFS is printing 87 Saturday and 88 Sunday for Birmingham… and those numbers look pretty good to me. Interesting to note those GFS values match exactly the record highs for Birmingham for April 9 and April 10. Warm air aloft associated with a strong upper high over the Gulf Coast region should keep us dry… the chance of a shower over the weekend is so small, I see no reason to mention it in the forecast. Break out the tank tops and flip flops.

MONDAY: The GFS and the ECMWF are in pretty good agreement about the cold front coming in during the day Monday. Looks like the main window for the band of showers and storms along the front will be in the 4:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. time frame, and the chance of a major severe weather issue looks rather low for now with the best upper support and the surface low so far to the north.

REST OF NEXT WEEK: The weather looks dry and pleasant Tuesday and Wednesday, but a strong upper trough will bring a round of showers and thunderstorms on Thursday (one week from today). At this point the following weekend looks warm and dry; see the Weather Xtreme video for more long range ideas.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
