An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player on the right sidebar of the blog. You can subscribe to the Weather Xtreme video on iTunes by clicking here.

STORMS STILL POSSIBLE: The Birmingham NWS office continues a flash flood watch for North-Central Alabama today, but the risk of additional severe weather is lower as the upper ridge over the Gulf Coast begins to move northward. A few more passing showers and storms are certainly possible today, but with the lower lapse rates and weaker wind fields, severe storms are not really likely today, and SPC has no formal risk in place. But, you know the deal, the is April in Alabama so you have to watch the radar pretty closely. The sun might peek out at times, and if that happens we reach the low 80s.

TOMORROW THROUGH SUNDAY: The weather on this three day period will be generally dry and very warm, just like late June instead of late April. Afternoon highs will be in the mid to upper 80s with high humidity levels continuing. I guess you might see a speck or two on radar at some point each afternoon, but the chance of rain is so small, we won’t mention it in the forecast thanks to the upper ridge that will be in place.

NEXT WEEK: Another powerhouse storm system promises to bring more severe weather to the southern U.S. Initially, the problems will be west of the state over the Southern Plains… watch the Weather Xtreme video and you will see the 00Z GFS brings the main threat into Alabama Wednesday and Wednesday night, much slower than recent runs. It is simply too early to be really specific on timing, or to determine the main modes of severe weather we will deal with. We will keep an eye on it in coming days.

VOODOO LAND: Ridging seems to be the story as we get into May with warm and generally dry conditions; again see the video for more on long range ideas.

TROPICS: Are you kidding me? NHC is watching a disturbance north of Puerto Rico that has a low end chance of becoming a pre-season tropical depression. Stronger winds aloft will begin to impact the system tonight, so it won’t be a long lived issue if by chance something happens to develop.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
