THIS AFTERNOON: The last MCS (mesoscale convective complex) is rolling through West Alabama this afternoon. A severe thunderstorm warning was issued earlier for Sumter County, but the main threat will be heavy rain, especially south of I-20. Rain is likely over the next couple of hours in Tuscaloosa and Birmingham, but the heavier amounts will be to the south where the air is more unstable. The rain should be over by 8:00 or so for most places as an upper ridge begins to move in from the south.

TOMORROW THROUGH SUNDAY: We are projecting highs in the 85-88 degree range on these three days, making the Easter weekend the warmest so far this year. The upper ridge will keep a lid on things, and the weekend should be dry with the exception of an isolated shower somewhere during the peak of the daytime heating. It will sure feel more like June instead of April.

NEXT WEEK: While Monday still looks mostly dry, a vigorous storm system will impact Alabama with showers and storms likely in the Tuesday-Wednesday time frame. For now it looks like the main threat of severe weather will come late Tuesday night into Wednesday, and this one could pack quite a punch. Still too early to determine the exact timing, and what kind of severe weather will be the main threat. Stay tuned. Cooler and drier air returns by Thursday.
