Looks like a nice weekend for us. Some morning low clouds will burn off fairly quickly today giving way to sunshine and highs in the lower 80s. More of the same on tap for Easter Sunday with a warm southerly breeze and highs again climbing into the 80s – mid 80s for most locations.

Monday the upper ridge begins to wane just a tad as a strong short wave comes out of the southern Rockies. The ridge is expected to hold Monday as that short wave zips northeast toward the Great Lakes. While moisture increases with the surface high moving off to the east, we should remain dry. The strong upper ridge holds into Tuesday while another short wave comes out of the Rockies. This short wave is expected to dig into the Red River Valley area with the development of a strong surface low that should be near Memphis by midday on Wednesday. Showers and isolated thunderstorms will be possible for Tuesday though many of us will see very little precipitation.

The surface low moves quickly from Memphis into northern Ohio by 1 am on Thursday with a cold front moving through Alabama. This will be our next threat of severe weather along with the potential for some heavy rain with the strong thunderstorms. The front should exit Alabama by midday on Thursday which sets the stage for us to see another great weekend of nice weather. SPC has much of Alabama in the outlook area for Day 5 – all but the extreme southern counties. Rainfall will probably be around one to one and a half inches with these storms.

Looking out much further, the ridge holds strong into the first few days of May. Another short wave promises a round of rain and storms around the 5th and 6th followed by more nice weather into the 8th.
