The Storm Prediction Center has issued a tornado watch for parts of Louisiana, Arkansas and Mississippi.

Tornado Watch 744

It will be in effect until 8 p.m. CST.

Thunderstorms have developed in a narrow area of instability this afternoon from Louisiana into southeastern Arkansas.

Wind fields are extremely strong with 18,000 foot winds over 100 mph.

The storms are not completely surface based, which will limit their tornadic potential, but isolated tornadoes are possible along with damaging wind until the line outruns the area of instability .

The airmass over Alabama is more stable and the prospects of it beocming unstable are limited. But with the spark of the strong cold front, the storms will persist into Alabama overnight. We could see scattered reports of wind damage.

In addition, it will become increasingly breezy through the afternoon and into the overnight, with winds to 30 mph expected later this evening.
