Dr. Tim Says Strong Evidence of EF5 Damage in Pratt City

A quick note from Dr Tim Coleman who is in Pratt City this afternoon with reporters from USA TODAY.

He says that he sees clear evidence that the tornado produced EF5 damage there, with a deciduous tree completely debarked. He says that is a sure sign the tornado was an EF5 there.

It will be interesting to see if the tornado has a continuous track from where it formed in Kemper County, Mississippi all the way into Georgia. My hunch is that it probably lifted briefly over northeastern Jefferson County before reforming over St. Clair County. Survey results will tell. In any case, it is Alabama’s deadliest tornado on record.
