An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player below, and on iTunes…

We will continue on a holiday schedule through tomorrow with just one Weather Xtreme video per day… we get back to the regular routine on Wednesday.

BLOG BLUES: Thanks so much for your patience… the problems we have been experiencing for the past two days have been corrected, and things are getting back to normal.

COLDEST AIR SO THIS SEASON TO ARRIVE WITH THE NEW YEAR: The big story in the short term is the Arctic air invasion that will begin tomorrow. Strong north winds, gusting to over 30 mph at times, will bring in the frigid air tomorrow. While the low level air is very dry, a few snow flurries can’t be ruled out, especially across the Tennessee Valley region of extreme North Alabama. But, the cold is the big story.

We will be close to 20 degrees by daybreak Wednesday, and during the day Wednesday we won’t get out of the 30s, even with maximum sunshine. Some communities near the Tennessee border will remain below freezing all day. Northwest winds will continue in the 10 to 18 mph range; keeping our wind chill values below freezing all day.

The coldest morning will be early Thursday, with a clear sky and light wind. We are forecasting a average low of 18, but we figure temperatures will range from 8 degrees in the coldest valleys, to 27 on the ridgetops. Keep in mind this is pipe-bursting type weather, so take the needed precautions now.

We begin to warm up at the end of the week, and highs will rise into the 50s on Friday and Saturday. We might even wind up in the 60s on Sunday. For now, it looks like most of the weekend will be dry, although a few isolated showers could show up Sunday afternoon.

LONG RANGE: Watch the video and see you can see the GFS is hinting we might have good rain events around January 10 and January 14, but as you know, that is the land of voodoo.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. You can even listen here on the blog; look for the player on the top left. We will record a new show tonight, and it should be posted by early tomorrow morning. This will be show number 101; show number 100 is up now.

WEATHER PARTY: Get all the latest weather news over on our sister site, WeatherParty.com. Be sure and register while you are there; you can submit stories and vote on them to determine what is published on the front page. This is a great way to find the latest weather-related news stories.

Thanks again for hanging with us over the past couple of days during our outage… I will crank out a Weather Xtreme video tomorrow (probably posted by midday), and then we get back to the two-a-day schedule on Wednesday as we all get back to work!
