Alabama 811 | Know What's Below.

Important Social Media Note

This is for those that follow me on Twitter and Facebook….

TWITTER: My stream has evolved into one that is matching groups or people with tornado relief needs with those who can meet those needs. The strength of social media has proven to be remarkable in the past week as I have watched it work.

Let me apologize to those of you who have followed me mainly for weather information. Weather tweets will be found, but needless to say, the overwhelming amount of traffic in the short term will involve tornado relief. I hope you understand.

For WeatherBrains listeners around the nation and world, if you listened to this week’s show, you are aware of the situation, and again I ask for your patience and understanding.

HASH TAGS: I started using #WeAreAlabama the day after the tornado, and it caught on quickly and spread like wildfire. Let’s keep it going. But, for tweets involving tornado relief, let’s try this…

IF YOU HAVE A NEED: Use the tag #ALNeeds

IF YOU CAN FILL A NEED: Use the tag #ALHaves

Thanks to @jsandford for this great idea. You can set up search columns in your Twitter client to sort this out. I will continue to retweet both “Needs” and “Haves”, of course.

FACEBOOK: It would be nice if we actually used these in the Facebook posts as well… helps to sort things out a little easier since there is so much traffic.

BOTTOM LINE: If you have a need, or you can meet needs, please continue to post them including @spann on Twitter, and on my Facebook page. I was blessed to have a large number of followers before the tornado, and we are using this vast army to really make a difference to our neighbors in need. Thanks to all of you for your understanding, love, and compassion.
